BONFIRES (9th April 2020)

It is appreciated that many of us are currently clearing Winter growth from our plots, and that the added inconvenience of the refuse tip being closed means that bonfires are inevitable.

However, current NAS advice is as follows:

Bonfires - Could those Associations who allow bonfires all year round ask people to consider their neighbours and not burn anything during this covid19 emergency. Many sites are surrounded by houses where vulnerable people may be getting their only bit of fresh air through an open window.

We are not banning bonfires yet, however we would urge you to only burn what is absolutely necessary, and to do this on a wind free or virtually wind free day! Please be extra considerate of your fellow plot holders, and particularly neighbouring houses, at this very difficult time.

THE TRADING HUT - 27TH MARCH 2020

Whilst the committee has no intention of breaking the government guidelines during the current crisis, it is acknowledged that many members will need items from the Trading Hut at this busy time of year.  Consequently, an advance order system has been introduced for the duration of the current emergency and stock from the hut may be purchased as follows.

All orders should be emailed to the Trading Hut Manager, Dick Gilbert at richard@gilbert2.plus.com.

A price list is attached to this post.

The full price of the order should be paid in one of two ways.

Cheque

A cheque, payable to OHGAS should be submitted on collection of the order.

Bank Transfer

The full cost should be paid by bank transfer in advance of collection. The OHGAS bank details are

Sort Code – 30 91 91    Account No – 37273368. The reference for the payment should be OHGAS

Cash will not be accepted.

The order will be prepared for collection and the time and date for collection will be emailed to the member by the Hut Manager.

Nomination Form for Committee Members

I was recently contacted by Michael Knight who has launched a community seed swapping website, it’s purpose being to facilitate the swapping and exchange of heritage/open pollinated seeds (not hybrids). His aim is to promote the practice of seed saving in Great Britain in much the same way as ‘face to face’ seed swaps do, but instead doing on a wider scale online. Use of his website is, and will continue to be, completely free.

The web address is www.seedswap.org.uk

URGENT APPEAL!!

This is an urgent appeal for help from Dick, our Trading Hut Manager, who is currently preparing the Trading Hut rota for 2020.  He urgently needs volunteers who are prepared to give up one or two Sunday mornings during the whole of next year.  It’s not even the whole morning, just from 9.00 to 10.30.

Unless enough volunteers come forward to help fill the gaps, as it is not fair to expect the same people to man the Hut week in week out, then unfortunately the Trading Hut will not be open every Sunday next year.

If you are able to help, please get in touch urgently with either myself or Dick.

Have a wonderful Christmas.

Hedges and Fences

Members are reminded that it is their responsibility to keep all hedges and fences bordering their plots in a tidy condition.  If anyone is unable to take care of this themselves, they should speak to their site stewards so that some help can be found.

POLITE WARNING

Members are respectfully reminded that they must not go onto other member's plots without that member's permission!

Vacancies for Stewards

We desperately need a steward at our Elm Close site (ideally two) and an additional steward for Willow Close.  If you are interested in taking on this role, please contact Penny on ohgassecretary@gmail.com and she will provide you with further information.

OHGAS Working Party

We are currently looking for volunteers from our membership to assist with site maintanance over the Summer months, which allows costs and rents to stay at a minimum, along with building a happy community within our allotment sites.

If you feel that you have a little bit of time to spare and would like to join your site's working party group, then please email me at ohgassecretary@gmail.com so that I can add you to our list of volunteers who we can call on as and when required.

OHGAS DATA PROTECTION POLICY 2018
